Grouping And Naming organism (Trees, Ferns and Fungi)

Bird Nest Fern

Genus: Asplenium

Bird Nest Fern is a non flowering plant. They usually grow in between the tree branches as it need to grow on places that is damp and dark. It resemble a bird nest. Spores can be found on the underside of the leaves.

Fungi

Fungi is not a plant but a decomposer. They do not make food on their own but they feed on dead or decay matter. Decomposer break down dead organisms into simpler substances. These simpler substances are then return back to the soil. It becomes fertilizer and minerals to the plants. The process of breaking down decay matter into simpler substances is called decomposition. During these process, oxygen is taken in by the decomposers and they give out water and carbon dioxide as they respire. Due to these process, dead organisms are being recycled and returned to the environment.

Conserving efforts at Jurong Lake Park/Conclusion

When our group went there, actually there are signs all over the place in Jurong Lake Park. One of the sign in Jurong Lake Park is actually telling people that no littering, no swimming, etc. on the lake. But,we saw that there were still many litters such as plastic paper in the corner of the lake. So, we think that the authorities or park management officials at Jurong Lake Park should place some closed-circuit television in Jurong Lake Park and if users throw rubbish they shall get fine as the process of them littering is on the closed-circuit television.

Another things is that we think that there should not have Pong Pong trees. As pong pong is poisonous, if any users do not know that it is poisonous and they eat and touch it, they will be poison. The authorities should place a sign near the pong pong trees and said that it is poisonous so do not touch it.

We should conserve the park as it is important to the residents and our school. The residents and our school uses the park for jogging and running. Some of the residents usually went there for a morning walk. As for the lake, our school's dragon boat training is in the lake, so it is convenience to them as they does not need to waste time travelling to far away places. So, Jurong Lake Park brings us many benefit such as jogging, running, morning walk and cca trainings.

If we appreciate and protect the natural environment in Jurong Lake Park, it will be much more beautiful than now. The easiest way we can protect the natural environment by not harming their home - Jurong Lake Park and following the sign that tell us what we should do and should not do. So, every users, please conserve  Jurong Lake Park.

Impact Of Human In Jurong Lake Park

Cutting Down of Trees:

Human are always harming the environment in some ways and sometimes, people don't even realize it. Cutting down trees bring no advantage to the environment. Trees provide us with shade, habitat to living organisms for example the squirrels. Also, trees replenish the air and cool the environment. Trees play an important role in absorbing the greenhouse gases that causes global warming.

Consequences:

Without trees, the animals that live on the trees will "migrate" to other places. If the animals can't find a suitable place to live over a long period of time, they will either die or adapt. Human should not be destroying the living organisms habitat. In my opinion, they should leave the natural habitat alone so that they can be either a study source to people, a place for people to admire the scenery, home to the organisms and etc. If we cut down the trees, there will be lesser trees to absorb the greenhouse gases that lead to global warming. These facts shows that trees bring no harm to us if we don't destroy them. So if we destroy them, the impact will become a harm to us. Then, why do we still harm them?

Littering:

Another human activities found in Jurong Lake park is littering. Litter are very commonly found there. I believe that the litter are thrown by some inconsiderate people. When I saw this, I felt that if tourist happen to walk past and saw this unsightly scene, the image of Singapore will be damaged. In my opinion, I strongly encourage people to throw the rubbish into the dustbin as I can see many bins in Jurong Lake Park.

Consequences:

Scenario:
If fishes happen to swim into the plastic bag that is in the lake, have you ever wonder what will happen?

To me I am sure that if the fishes did not manage to swim out of the plastic bag, the innocent fishes will die inside it. I think that if the person who throw this plastic bag in the lake think twice, they will never litter inside the lake. A plastic bag can take the marine organisms life, then why do people still want to litter. I am sure that the person who litter will feel remorse and guilty. We should not be committing such irresponsible act and also if the person is caught, he/she will be fine by the Government. Therefore, I would like to emphasize people not to litter.

Fishing:

In this picture, we can see that the man is fishing at the platform. I think that the man should not be fishing there. If people continue to fish there, the species of the fishes will decrease. If this continue, the population of the fishes will descend over a long period of time due to over-fishing. I would like to suggest everyone not to fish there as species of the fishes will decrease. I am sure that nobody would like to see the day where the fishes species become extinct.

Oil Pollution:

We can see that from this that there is a layer of  substance that shine. This layer of substance are oil. I believe that this oil are drain down from the factories or hawker centers nearby. If a bird happen to drink this polluted water, the chemicals will be will poison the bird and eventually die. If the bird dip its body into this substance, it will be unable to fly. This make escape difficult to the bird if its predator comes. If this continue, the population of the birds will decrease. The ecosystem in Jurong Lake Park will also drop.

All the human activity  mention above will AFFECT the Ecosystem in Jurong Lake Park. We have to STOP all the human activities mention above so that there will be lesser Negative impact compared to now. So Please STOP destroying the Park and Save the environment !!!
